Member Intro – Dove

Greetings we are bliz and dove! We came to this project through our love of Burning Man and our desire to bring that ethos (or our interpretation of it) into the world every day.

Several years ago, we explored our dream of an “extended” playa experiment/project – purchasing land where we could build big art, build an intentional community, off grid living, permaculture, host workshops, festivals, camp outs, help artists find grants etc – but found a project of that size was too much for two people with little experience in real estate, land development, zoning, not to mention building communal and individuals structures, permaculture and gardening, solar power…we could go on and on on what we don’t know, but we think you get the idea. We put the idea on the (far) back burner as our life moved us to the West Coast and away from that particular dream.

Fast forward several years later and we stumbled across a Facebook posting from an old East Coast friend. It was funny – his posts hadn’t showed up in our feed for months, if not years, yet here there he was. Yay algorithms? Anyway, he was discussing a project he was involved in with some fellow Burners in North Carolina and Virginia – Collective Spaces. In a nutshell, what he described was so in line with our dreams of an extended playa experience, we knew we had to be involved.

This project went so far beyond what we could have hoped to be involved in, far beyond “just” building an intentional community. So many parts of this particular project are important to us – a commitment to radical inclusion, diversity, and equity; a commitment to class solidarity; a commitment to exploring new ways of thinking, both in our organizational process and in how we view ownership and contribution; a commitment to be open to trying , to experimenting, to working together, playing together, learning together, and even failing together. We’re excited to see where we go next…we know we have a long way before our vision is realized, and we hope we find fellow dreamers to join us on the way!
